70 years of the Štefánikův Bridge in Prague

Seventy years have gone from the time when the new Štefánik Bridge across the Vltava River in Prague was open to traffic. The admired former chain (later cable) stayed iron bridge from the 19th century was considered one of the most beautiful bridges in Prague but unfortunately its width and bearing capacity during the time became no more suitable for traffic. The design of the new reinforced concrete arch bridge built in the early 1940s is extremely successful in terms of its construction and appearance and its lightness and elegance fully corresponds to the to contemporary ideas of urban bridges.
